Key Largo Snorkeling Day Trip from Miami
The Best Snorkeling in the Continental US Is Less then 90 Minutes from Miami
Most people who live in South Florida have never snorkeled the Florida Keys reef. That’s about to change.
You’re Closer to World-Class Snorkeling Than You Think
The Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary — home to the only living coral barrier reef in the continental United States — begins just 90 minutes south of Brickell. The Christ of the Abyss. Molasses Reef. Carysfort Lighthouse. Sites that attract visitors from around the world are sitting in your backyard.
Silent World Dive Center is the first snorkel operation you reach when you enter Key Largo — right at Mile Marker 106, oceanside, before you hit the tourist strip. We’ve been running snorkel-only boats to these reefs for years. Our guests come from Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Coral Gables, Aventura, and Brickell every single weekend.
Most of them say the same thing on the way back: I can’t believe I waited this long.
The Drive
- Getting Here from Miami or Brickell:
- Take I-95 South or the Florida Turnpike South to Florida City. Connect to US-1 South. Drive through the 18-mile stretch. Cross into the Keys. We are your first stop — 51 Garden Cove Drive, Key Largo, Mile Marker 106, oceanside.
- Total drive time: 90 minutes without traffic.
- Leave early. The weekend drive to the Keys backs up at Florida City — especially on Saturday and Sunday mornings between 8 and 10am. Leave before 7am and you’ll arrive relaxed. Leave at 9am and you might hit an hour of stop-and-go through Homestead.
- From Fort Lauderdale: Add approximately 30 minutes.
- From Boca Raton or Palm Beach: Add approximately 45-60 minutes.
Pro tip from our crew: Stop at Publix in Florida City for snacks and drinks before you hit US-1. Prices go up the further into the Keys you drive. We provide snacks and drinks on the boat but bringing your own lunch for the drive back is smart, or enjoy an easy Keysie style local catch lunch at one of our local Eateries.
Gas up before Florida City. Same reason.

Why Key Largo and Not Key West
You’re Closer Than You Think — And the Reef Is Better
Key West is 3.5 hours from Miami. Key Largo is 90 minutes. That’s not a small difference for a day trip.
More importantly — the reef near Key Largo is widely considered the healthiest and most biodiverse in the Florida Keys system. The Christ of the Abyss sits less then 6 miles offshore from our dock. Molasses Reef — one of the most visited reefs in the world — is right here. Carysfort Lighthouse Reef, one of the least crowded and most pristine sanctuary reefs in the upper Keys, is ours too.
Key West snorkeling involves a long boat ride to reach reef that sees significantly more traffic than what we run. If snorkeling is your reason for going to the Keys — Key Largo is the right answer.
Why Silent World?
The First Shop You Reach. The only Snorkel-Only Fleet on the Reef.
We are your first stop entering Key Largo at Mile Marker 106 — you don’t have to drive through tourist traffic or hunt for parking. Pull in, check in, get on the boat.
We run snorkel-only boats. No scuba divers sharing the deck, no waiting for divers to surface, no compromise. Every trip is built exclusively for snorkelers.
We cap our boats below maximum capacity. More space, more crew attention, better experience than the crowded cattle boats running further down US-1.
We are the closest snorkel operator to the Christ of the Abyss — the most iconic underwater landmark in the continental United States.
4,500+ five-star reviews. Key Largo’s most trusted snorkel fleet.
